Link, The Hero of Winds by Paterack Link, The Hero of Winds by Paterack
Part of a bigger piece that I'm working on, but I was so satisfied with how it came out that I wanted to upload it! Wind Waker's arguably my favorite out of the LoZ series, so Toon Link holds a special place with me. I wanted to create something that captured the look of the official game art while somewhat in my own style.

My first critique. Hope it's good.

- first, I say shading would be good. Yea, you did some but I can't see the wrinkles in his tunic or the shine on his sword
-I like how you invented his shield. Hylian is ok but new is always better.
-link looks kinda mad. Give him more expression when he's walking. He should be happy since he saved zelda how many times now.
-I like how you gave it that old look. It shows that link has been brought a lot and will be through much more.
-why no background? It paints the picture much better
-his form looks great. That is what I think you mastered.
-you mastered the hands as well. I don't know how to make hands as great as you do!
-all in all, nothing is perfect! You can improve your work little by little and make it a true master piece.

Well, hope this helps. I really like it so don't say I blabbed on about how bad it was!

Well, I thought that this was pretty good, but, as BLF said, his expression does look kinda strange, like he's about to go bully some defenseless little kids, that weird, douchey, kind of arrogant smile; his cap looks sort of rigid and angular. But overall, this is a truly awesome drawing, and I realize that the facial expression is one of the most difficult details to master. If I may make a suggestion, for future reference, I think you should soften the arched eyebrows a little bit. They make the expression look harsher. I do like the Master Sword and the shield, and the drawing has great symmetry, very even.

You bring up a lot of good points - at the end of the day, people are entitled to think and say what they like. And at the end of the day, if I'm happy with how a drawing came out, then that's all that matters to me.

I'll keep trying to make awesome artwork - thank you very much again!

let's just say that I admire you a lot hehe XDEne (Smile) [V7]  !

I really like how well your style meshes with the look of the official art; it's got all the flavor of Wind Waker, but with extra detailing and a certain appealing chunky look that goes well with the feel of the game. The detail done with thin lines on the sword and shield is great.

Wind Waker is arguably my favorite as well (OoT is a very, very close second), and I'm glad to see such a great portrait of Toon Link; I'll be looking forward to the larger piece!

Have you played it on an emulator? Playing WW in HD is amazing. I'd love if they did an HD port for the Wii U.

Fantastic piece- love the texture. You got the proportions of Toon Link down and kept true to the style with the angular curves (hair, belt buckle, etc). As a stickler for detail and authenticity, the mirror shield and Master Sword hilt are absolutely great.

Two suggestions - one, work on the shading just a little bit more, perhaps darken it just a tad (pure black = no no!). I love the look now, but i wonder if it could be made even better.

The other is try doing it so that the outline isn't solid black. Again, I love it as it is, but I would very much like to see the outlines be a darker shade of the item it holds in (dark green for the hat, dark blue for the shield, etc. Not terribly dark, but enough to make it a more subtle border. If you do, make it a copy of the original, because I love it exactly as it is!

10/Triforce, would fave again.

First and foremost, thanks for the compliments! I agree - I will be pushing the shading a bit more, especially in parts like the tunic, boots, etc.

I played around with doing the outlines a darker shade instead of straight black, namely with the Master Sword, and I may have to try retooling it a bit to get a result that looks satisfactory.

This WW Link will be a part of a bigger piece I'm working on, so the changes will show on that bigger piece and on this one as well when the time comes. Again, thank you :)
