Mighty Morphin Red Ranger

Description

My take on the Red Power Ranger, originally known as the Tyranno Ranger - I wanted to make a new spin on the power rangers in mid-morph, done anime-style. This may be a good or bad thing depending on what you're into, but I referenced some of the Sailor Moon transformation sequences to use as inspiration.

At any rate, enjoy!

Looks great. And there was a moment like this in the actual morph sequence with the helmet forming, so it might look like this if you saw it standing back.

I remember one of the biggest questions I had watching this as a kid being what the morph looked like “from outside,” what you’d see if you were standing in the room when they did it. “Instamorphs” as they call it are common now but three years of MMPR went by without one non-morph-sequence, in-real-space morph. There was this one episode where a camera was running when they did it and I was so, so excited that we were finally going to see; surely they’d show the recording, right? RIGHT? Well, nope.

So in Zeo, in “Invasion of the Ranger Snatchers,” when they ran toward the screen and morphed and there was no reason not to expect the normal stock footage... and then... IT HAPPENED! I was screaming and running around the room and couldn’t explain to anyone just what I was so excited about, and I ran the scene over and over and over (I recorded every episode by default in case I wanted to keep it. Still do.)

Of course, it had enough of the PRZ morph sequence’s effects in ‘real life’ that it’s probably only what the Zeo change looked like and not the MMPR one. It was still so freaking awesome, but even then, and to this day (we didn’t get instamorphs with any MMPR rangers in later teamups) we don’t know what it looks like.

I always assumed (for my sanity) that it would look like a reverse of the insta-demorph seen in Green With Evil, Part 5 (the only onscreen voluntary demorph in MMPR) but of course it’d look much cooler if it was like this.
